Manchester is also well known for its two rival premier league football clubs; United and City. It was also the home of the commonwealth games in 2002, confirming the city’s importance as an international sporting destination. As well as football, Manchester is home to a variety of traditional English sports such as; greyhound and horse racing, rugby, cricket and squash. In October 2008 the National Squash Centre will be hosting the World Open Squash Championships - a great opportunity for a Manchester osteopath to volunteer to support this event.

Beyond the city’s northern boundary there are over 500 square miles of countryside to explore. Manchester is also perfectly situated to act as a base to those wanting to explore the Lake District, the Peak District and the historical city of York. So walking injuries; muscle strains, ligament injuries, and general wear and tear problems, e.g. osteoarthritis, are not at all uncommon presentations to osteopaths in this region.
