Thinking of becoming an osteopath?

Are you considering retraining as an osteopath?

The College of Osteopaths is a school of osteopathy offering both undergraduate and post-graduate programmes for osteopaths and other allied-health professionals. For general outline on osteopathic training visit the overview of osteopathy degree options.

The College offers a part-time osteopathy programme delivered in collaboration with Middlesex (North London campus) and Keele (North Staffordshire) Universities. Because the course is part-time, it is ideal for both mature students and those with family, work and financial commitments.

It is also great for school leavers who are daunted at the prospect of a large loan to pay off at the end since they can work alongside their studies.

The qualification offered by the College of Osteopaths is a BSc (Hons) in Osteopathy. The course runs over 18 teaching weekends per year for 5 years.

Like all osteopathic courses, there is also a large practical element to the course whereby students are required to complete 1,200 hours of practical experience in the nearby clinics.

The fantastic thing about training with the College of Osteopaths is that it is the only institution to offer an osteopathic education outside of Greater London.

Keele University is an superb partner for the College of Osteopaths since the university offers a large range of health-related professional training programmes such as; medicine, nursing, midwifery, clinical psychology, pharmacy and physiotherapy, thus provides excellent resources and a wide pool of expertise.

The main draw for the programme offered at Keele University is its location.

The osteopathic programme was launched in 2005 and is still the only osteopathic training program offered in the northern half of the country (the majority of schools are based in and around London).

The Middlesex campus is based within the School of Health and Social Sciences. It is one of the leading centres for professional education as well as being one of London’s top research facilities in the field of health and social sciences.

In addition to the undergraduate courses, the London based campus of the college of osteopaths also runs an Advanced Diploma in Osteopathy, an MSc in Clinical Practice and an MSc in Professional Studies (osteopathy) as well as courses in Naturopathy.

The content of this page is informed by feedback from clinics in Essex and also practices in Birmingham. Further input was received from a practitioner in Luton and osteopaths in the Bromley area. Finally a contribution was made by osteopathic practitioners in Hove.
