After seven long years of planning, Tony Nevin, an osteopath in Cheltenham has finally realised his dream. He has just completed the first elephant Osteopathy workshop in Kenya and in fact the world!
He and a small group of osteopaths travelled down to Kenya to take part in this exciting experiment, they spent a whole week working alongside the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Nairobi and then Tsavo.
The idea behind Nevin’s concept was that elephants or rhinos, that may have been orphaned or suffered some kind of physical abuse, are likely to endure similar emotional and mental affects, as that of young children who have been through such traumas in their lives.
Tony Nevin has accumulated seventeen years of experience in examining and treating baby elephants and was keen to prove, with the help of the group, his theory to be correct. They soon went to work and began by assessing 28 baby elephants and rhinos at the base. Each person in the group had their turn, they then compared their findings. All found a difference after treatment, the babies felt at ease and they began to relax.
Tony who is registered with the Osteopath Network, not only treats animals but of course humans as well. Whist he is planning to continue his voluntary work with the Trust and to make more trips over to Kenya, at present he is based at the Harmony Clinic in Gloucestershire, where he is happy to offer Osteopathic care for you and the whole family.
The content of this page is informed by feedback from clinics in Kent and also osteopathic practitioners in Manchester. Further input was received from a practitioner in Chiswick and osteopaths in the Bromley area. Finally a contribution was made by practices in Oxford.
