The Back show provides an opportunity for the public to meet with some of the backcare specialists such as; Osteopaths, Chiropractors and Physiotherapists.

Backcare Awareness Week is an annual event run by the charity helping to raise the public awareness of back pain as well as promoting the latest developments into the treatment and prevention of back pain.

There is no magic cure for back pain however, with the advancements in technology and medical science there are now a number of products and options for those who suffer with chronic back pain. Maintaining a positive mind set is one of the most important steps in the management of back pain.

Below is an extract from the booklet; a few of the top tips to keep you pain free*.

1. Mind your posture
Avoid long periods in one position, move around regularly and stretch and exercise your back muscles regularly.

2. Stay Active
When you experience back pain it is very important to stay active. Prolonged bed rest is often counter-productive in managing back pain

3. Get comfortable when working
Adjust your work environment, i.e. is your computer screen at the right height? Do you have to do too much reaching?

4. Shopping
Using a high trolley reduces the need to bend too much. Try carrying your shopping in two smaller bags instead of one big one or go twice to the shop instead of buying everything in one go.

5. Driving
Take regular breaks when having to drive long distances and use a firm seat that gives good support; use an extra lumbar support if needed. An even better option may be to take the train which allows you move around regularly instead of being in one position for a long time.
